I’ll send your custom design the day before your appointment.
I create your design from the brief, ideas and references you’ve given me. I’m an experienced illustrator and creating original artwork from a client brief is a huge part of what I do. That creative judgement is a big part of what you’re booking me for.
Once you receive your design, there’s time for changes if needed. Then, on the day, we’ll take our time making sure everything feels right before we begin. Nothing gets tattooed until you’re happy to go ahead.
I don’t send designs earlier or offer an open-ended redesign process. My process gives me the protected drawing time needed to give each custom piece the attention it deserves, while avoiding weeks of overthinking and outside opinions.
Larger or multi-session projects always require a consultation and have a more collaborative planning process.
And if you’d simply feel more comfortable meeting me before booking, that’s absolutely fine too! Start by submitting an enquiry with all the information you currently have to https://venue.ink/@cornishink and let me know you’d like a consultation. I can arrange a quick chat at my Newquay studio or a video call if that’s easier. 💙
-
I have given you an estimated duration, based on my best guess but I do not offer exact timings as there are so many variables. Please avoid booking anything straight after your appointment. This tattoo is yours for life, and I respect you and your body too much to rush.
If changes on the day mean that your appointment needs to be extended or another session needs to be booked this extra time is chargeable and will be discussed with you.
-
Of course. You are so, so welcome here. 💙
You don’t need to pretend you’re not nervous, and there is absolutely no expectation to be “brave” for me. Whether it’s your first tattoo, you’re anxious about the pain, you’re worried about your body being on show, or you’re just generally a bundle of nerves, please tell me. I would always rather know so I can make things as comfortable as possible for you.
My studio is private and appointments are one-to-one, so we can take things at your pace. I’ll talk you through what’s happening, you can ask as many questions as you need, and we can take breaks whenever you want them.
You are also completely allowed to change your mind about size or placement, ask to move the stencil for the fifth time, need a minute, cry, laugh, swear, go quiet or talk absolute nonsense for three hours.
Being nervous is never an inconvenience. Looking after you is part of my job.
-
Yes.
My studio is small and can hold a maximum of three people (including me). You’re very welcome to bring someone, but it’s worth knowing that it can often feel more relaxed for you without a waiting guest.
This appointment is all about you, and we want it to feel calm, easy, and unhurried and I will do anything I can to facilitate this.
Please note: no children or animals are permitted in my studio.
-
Yes, tattoos hurt… but probably not in the terrifying way your brain may be imagining!
Pain is incredibly individual, and how a tattoo feels depends on lots of things including the placement, length of the appointment and, quite simply, you. Some areas are definitely spicier than others, and a longer session can start to feel more uncomfortable as your skin gets tired.
Please don’t worry about needing to be “good at pain”. There are no medals here. You can ask for a break whenever you need one, change position, have a snack, swear at me or tell me you’ve had enough for the day. Your comfort is more important to me than proving how tough you are.
You can also give yourself the best possible start: get a good night’s sleep, eat a proper meal beforehand, stay hydrated and bring snacks and something sugary with you. These things genuinely help enormously.
Periods and their effects on pain.
If you have periods, you may notice that your sensitivity to pain changes at different points in your cycle.
Some research has found higher pain thresholds during parts of the follicular phase (roughly the time after your period and before ovulation).
More importantly, you know your own body. If you personally feel more sensitive, tired, crampy, emotional or generally a bit rubbish around your period, it’s perfectly reasonable to take that into account when choosing your appointment date. Equally, there’s no general reason you can’t be tattooed because you’re on your period.
And if you’re nervous about pain, please tell me. I would much rather know and look after you accordingly than have you wound up in a panic.
-
It is up to you. I just ask that if you’re thinking of using numbing cream, just give me a heads up before your appointment, ideally during booking, as it will take longer to tattoo you with numbed skin.
You MUST do a patch test in advance as it can cause serious allergic reactions.
Please make sure you have done your own research. These creams can change the skin’s texture and blood flow, like constricting blood vessels and suppressing the skin's natural responses. Which can affect how the skin takes pigment and heals.
But more importantly, numbing cream isn’t without risk. Reactions can range from rashes and chemical burns to potentially serious systemic reactions, including heart and nervous-system problems if too much anaesthetic is absorbed.

🌞 Keep out of the sun, I can’t tattoo sunburnt skin (no exceptions)
💧 Stay well hydrated before your appointment… bonus points if you can up your water a whole week before! Hydrated skin means less pain, easier application and better healing.

🧁 Bring a sugary drink or sweet treat with you in case you feel a little shaky. I will always try to have these things in too, but I can’t guarantee it (because I’m a forgetful sausage).
😎 The studio has bright lights so you can bring some sunglasses with you. You can also bring a jumper/ blanket or handheld fan to keep you comfortable. My studio is generally kept on the cool side.

💷 Please bring correct cash with you
🧜♀️ Please a photo ID
✍️ Fill in the consent form before you arrive
📍 Arrive on time and relaxed - I’ll take care of the rest!
IMPORTANT: If you’re thinking of using numbing cream, just give me a heads up beforehand and you MUST do a patch test in advance as it can cause serious allergic reactions.

Yes.
Obvious ones like being under 18, being drunk or under the influence of drugs.
But also things like having sunburnt or damaged skin on the tattoo area.
Also certain medical conditions.
If you are worried something may prevent you getting tattooed please reach out to me to discuss.

Everyone heals a little differently, but your tattoo will usually go through its main healing stages over the first 2–3 weeks.
During that time it’s completely normal for it to look and feel a little different from day to day. You may experience some redness and tenderness initially, followed by dryness, flaking, peeling or light scabbing as your skin heals.
Please don’t pick, scratch or peel it, however tempting that one tiny flaky bit may be. Let your body do its thing.
I’ll give you full aftercare instructions following your appointment, and you’re always welcome to contact me if you’re unsure about how your tattoo is healing.
-
Please wait until your tattoo is completely surface healed before swimming or submerging it in water. This is usually about two weeks.
That means no swimming pools, sea swimming, hot tubs, jacuzzis or soaking in the bath while it’s still healing. A fresh tattoo is essentially a healing wound, and submerging it can expose it to bacteria and other irritants as well as interfere with the healing process.
A shower is absolutely fine, but swimming is different from getting your tattoo briefly wet while washing it.
Don’t rely solely on a certain number of days having passed. If your tattoo is still peeling, scabbing, weeping, sore or otherwise visibly healing, it’s not ready for a swim yet.
So if you’re planning a Cornish sea-swimming holiday, spa weekend or spending seven consecutive days pretending to be a mermaid, please factor healing time in when choosing your tattoo date. 🧜♀️
The nitty gritty - T&Cs
-
Yes. All appointments require a non refundable deposit, if you haven’t paid one, your appointment isn’t in my diary. Deposit amounts come off the total cost of your tattoo.
Booking fee
I use Venue Ink to make and manage all bookings with me.
When you pay your deposit through Venue, they charge a small booking fee. This fee goes to Venue, not to me, and is separate from the cost of your tattoo and your deposit. The booking fee is non-refundable.
Venue provides a secure booking and payment system, manages your booking information and agreed terms in one place, and sends you appointment confirmations and reminders.
Venue will show you the fee before you make your payment, so you’ll always be able to see exactly what you’re being charged.
No booking fee is charged on the balance of your tattoo.
-
The balance is due in cash on the day. Please ensure you have correct cash with you as I often will not have change.
There is a cash machine at the Asda just down the road.
If you think you may want your tattoo bigger than you have been quoted for bring additional cash with you. My ‘extra time’ hourly rate is charged at £60 per hour.
If you cannot pay in cash please let me know before your appointment.
-
Yes, you can pop in to the studio and pay any amount off the cost of your tattoo before your appointment date. Just make sure to reach out to arrange a time so I can be available.
Venue (my booking system provider) also offer klarna for deposit payments.
-
Please let me know as soon as you realise you’re running late. You can contact me through your Venue Ink booking or via WhatsApp @lu.cornish
I always try to allow plenty of time for appointments and do my best to be accommodating, but arriving late does eat into the time I’ve reserved for your tattoo. If we no longer have enough time to complete what you’ve booked, we may need to arrange another appointment to finish it, which will be charged separately.
If you’re significantly late and there is no longer enough time to safely or comfortably go ahead with your appointment, we may need to reschedule and a new deposit may be required.
I’ll always do what I reasonably can to make things work, but I also need to make sure one appointment running late doesn’t affect the next client’s experience.
So don’t panic if you’re stuck behind a tractor. Just let me know! 💙

First of all, please tell me. Illness happens, and I will always treat you with kindness and understanding. I don’t want you dragging yourself to a tattoo appointment feeling absolutely dreadful because you’re worried about messaging me.
That said, I do need to have some firm boundaries around illness.
Getting tattooed asks a lot of your body, and if you’re unwell it may not be a good time to add a tattoo to the list of things it needs to deal with.
I’m also self-employed, I have young children, and I don’t receive sick pay if I have to stop working. One contagious illness brought into my little studio can have a surprisingly big knock-on effect, so please be considerate of that too. 💙
Sickness & diarrhoea
Please absolutely do not attend your appointment if you have vomiting or diarrhoea.
You must have been completely free from vomiting and diarrhoea for at least 48 hours after your last episode before coming into the studio.
If this falls within your appointment time, please contact me as soon as possible rather than attending.
If you have been anywhere near norovirus don’t come near me with a 10ft barge pole.
Colds, coughs & other mild illnesses
If you have mild symptoms and otherwise feel well enough to be tattooed, you are welcome to come to the studio for your appointment.
If there is any possibility that your illness is contagious, I ask you that you wear an appropriate medical face mask covering your nose and mouth while you’re in the studio. Please bring your own mask, as I don’t provide them.
If you have a high temperature, feel significantly unwell or have symptoms that make tattooing inappropriate, please don’t attend and contact me instead.
How do I know if I’m well enough to be tattooed?
Ultimately, the responsibility for deciding whether you are medically well enough to attend lies with you.
I’m a tattoo artist, not a doctor, and I can’t diagnose you or tell you whether a particular illness, condition or medication makes it medically safe for you to be tattooed.
If you’re unsure, please speak to an appropriate medical professional before your appointment.
I also reserve the right to postpone an appointment on the day if I believe it would be inappropriate or unsafe for us to continue.
What happens to my deposit if I’m ill?
Being unwell does not automatically waive my usual cancellation and rescheduling policy.
I completely understand that nobody chooses to get sick, but when you book an appointment I reserve that time specifically for you. I’m unable to simply absorb the cost of appointments that can’t go ahead at short notice.
Please contact me as soon as you know there may be a problem. The more notice I have, the more chance I have of filling your appointment.
My normal 72-hour cancellation and rescheduling terms still apply, including where the reason for cancelling is illness.
Please don’t conceal an infectious illness because you’re worried about losing your deposit. Talk to me. I will always be kind, but I also need to protect my health, my family, my other clients and my very small business.
Basically: look after yourself, don’t bring me the plague, and please communicate with me. 💙
-
Life likes to throw us curveballs! If you need to move your appointment, please let me know as soon as you can.
Your booking includes one reschedule, provided you give me at least 72 hours’ notice. Your deposit will simply transfer across to your new appointment date.
If you give me less than 72 hours’ notice, your deposit will be forfeited and a new deposit will be needed to book another appointment.
If you need to reschedule for a second time, your original deposit will also be forfeited and a new deposit will be required to secure another date.
This isn’t intended to punish you for having plans change. When you book with me, I’ve reserved that time specifically for you and may have turned away other clients for the same date. Repeatedly moving an appointment makes it increasingly difficult for me to fill those spaces, particularly at short notice.
The best thing you can do is communicate with me. The sooner I know something has changed, the more chance I have of offering your appointment to somebody else.
And please don’t be scared to message me because you think I’ll be annoyed. I’d much rather know what’s happening than have you worrying about it. 💙
-
Life happens. Sometimes plans change, emergencies crop up and appointments simply can’t go ahead. Please just tell me as soon as you possibly can.
If you cancel, your booking deposit is non-refundable. If you give me enough notice, though, I may be able to offer the appointment to somebody else rather than having an unexpected hole in my working day.
And please, please don’t just not turn up. A no-show means I’ve prepared for your appointment, reserved several hours of my working day exclusively for you and potentially turned away somebody else who wanted that space.
You never need to feel embarrassed about messaging me to cancel. I’d infinitely rather receive an awkward message than sit in an empty studio wondering whether you’re coming.
Please respect my time enough to let me know. No-shows will forfeit their deposit and I reserve the right not to accept future bookings from clients who fail to attend without contacting me.
AFTERCARE

-
During healing, you might notice your tattoo suddenly looks a little cloudy, dull, shiny or almost milky. Don’t panic! This can be a completely normal part of the healing process.
After the initial peeling and flaking, a fresh layer of skin is forming over your tattoo. This new skin is still thin and developing, which can temporarily make the ink underneath look less crisp or vibrant than it did when your tattoo was first finished.
It can be particularly noticeable with black and grey tattoos, where blacks may temporarily look a little grey or silvery.
As the skin continues to heal and mature, that cloudy appearance should gradually settle and your tattoo will become clearer again.
If you’re ever concerned about how your tattoo is healing, you’re very welcome to send me a photo. If you develop symptoms that could indicate an infection or another medical problem, please seek advice from an appropriate healthcare professional.
-

Remove the initial wrap: Take off the initial cling film cover 3 to 4 hours after getting your tattoo.
Clean the area: Gently wash the tattooed artwork with mild soap and water, then pat it completely dry with a clean paper towel.
Apply a fine layer: Put a thin, even layer of Fade The Itch serum over the entire tattoo and gently work it into the skin.
Leave it uncovered: You no longer need to use a cling film wrap because the serum creates a dry, antibacterial shield that stops the ink from sticking to your clothes or staining your bedsheets
About Fade the Itch and why I recommend it for most people but even more so for sensitive skin or those who struggle with the healing process. Fade The Itch is the first and only tattoo aftercare serum which uses patented dry heal technology to heal and protect new body art. Fade The Itch covers the artwork with a fine antibacterial shield meaning that cling film is only required for the first three to four hours post inking. The non greasy formula is quickly and easily absorbed, will not clog up pores and allows the skin to breath. Its pharmaceutical ingredients are clinically proven to cool the skin, deliver antibacterial protection from infection and relieve Irritation. It moisturises skin hydrates and locks in ink. The serum speeds up the healing time and is free from parabens, fragrance and lanolin and can be used on any skin tone or type.
-
Please leave the wrap on for 2-3 days.
Remove immediately should any of the tattoo become exposed as this means bacteria could become trapped under the covering. It is normal for ink / plasma / blood to pool a little under the second skin, do NOT lift the second skin to allow these fluids to escape.
Remove under warm water and pull gently down to ease off.
Once second skin is removed, wash your tattoo and clean it with a non fragranced antibacterial soap (I recommend Carex original hand soap) pat your tattoo dry with a paper towel.
After the first wash, do not apply moisturiser.
From the second wash and for two/three weeks following your tattoo appointment: Wash with antibacterial soap, rinse and pat dry, then apply a small amount (think barley there) of palmers cocoa butter to moisturise. Do this twice a day (morning and night).
PLEASE NOTE: some people have allergies to adhesive plasters like second skin, if, during wear, your skin becomes itchy, bumpy, or red around the edges of the covering, remove immediately and wash your skin with antibacterial soap. Pat dry with a paper towel. No moisturiser. Then continue with the care instructions.
-
Remove the wrap I have applied around 4 hours after the tattoo/ before bedtime.
Clean it under warm running water with a non fragranced antibacterial soap, pat the area dry and then re wrap in clingfilm for bed. No moisturiser.
Sleep with this wrap on and remove in the morning. Wash with a non fragranced antibacterial soap, pat the area dry. No moisturiser.
That night repeat the previous cleaning step. Wrap your tattoo at bedtime for two nights post tattoo.
After this wash with antibacterial soap, rinse and pat dry, then apply a small amount (think barley there) of palmers cocoa butter to moisturise. Do this twice a day (morning and night) for two-three weeks.
-
Remove the dressing I have applied around 4 hours after the tattoo/ before bedtime.
Clean it under warm running water with a non fragranced antibacterial soap, pat the area dry and then re wrap in the dressing I have given you for bed. No moisturiser.
Sleep with this dressing on and remove in the morning. Wash with a non fragranced antibacterial soap, pat the area dry with a paper towel. No moisturiser.
That evening wash with antibacterial soap, rinse and pat dry, then apply a small amount (think barley there) of palmers cocoa butter to moisturise. Do this twice a day (morning and night) for two-three weeks.
-
Whilst your tattoo is healing please avoid submerging it in water, no baths or swimming for at least two weeks, short showers are fine.
Avoid the gym for the first 2-3 days whilst your tattoo is wrapped up.
Keep your tattoo completely out of the sun while healing. You cannot apply SPF until it is surface healed (3ish weeks).
Even when your tattoo is healed, continue to moisturise and use sunscreen to take care of it, lifelong aftercare really makes a difference as to how tattoos age. Once fully healed (around 4 weeks), you can use SPF to protect it.
If you have any concerns or worries during the healing process please email me or reach out to my instagram where I can help you. If you think your tattoo is infected it is very important to seek medical attention immediately.
